In the early pioneer days she came with her parents to Nebraska, locating near Seward. This was her home until last spring when she went to Wyoming to live with her daughter Addie. In 1874 she was united in marriage to Alexander Hackworth. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living. In 1876 Brother and Sister Hackworth became charter members of the Seventh-day Adventist church at Seward. They remained faithful members until death. Brother Hackworth died in 1917. Here he became a playmate of the author of this book. Was raised a farmer boy until he was seventeen years old, when he was taken violently with the gold fever, and in company with many of the neighbors made an overland trip to Calif ornia, where he remained three years. Saved and brought home some money . Married Miss Drucilla Divan in 1854. Lived in the old neighborhood until their removal to Seward county in 1872, when they settled on a homestead about five miles south-east of Seward. Mr. and Mrs. Morton helped organize the Seventh Day Advent church at Seward. Mr. Morton enlisted in Company D, Wis. Vol., and served until wounded at Cedar Mountain . Was in Banks' famous retreat from Winchester; and had several close calls. Is now a member of Seward post. "When 10 years old (about 1843), Francis moved with his parents (James McConnell Morton and Mary Montgomery Morton) to Green County, Wisconsin. According to the HISTORY OF SEWARD COUNTY, by W.W. Cox, when Francis was 17 years old (1850) he got gold fever and went to California for 3 years . After returning to Wisconsin, he married Drucilla Divan on Aug. 28, 1853.
