Finally got a job with the Natural Gas Corporation of OR in La Grande, OR. Left in 1937 and moved to Mokelumne Hill, Calaveras, CA where he opened a gold Assay Office. Was there until 1942 when Order L208 came out. In October 1942, The War Labor Board, and an executive order by FDR practically killed the gold mining industry in the United States. Acting under the auspice of the War Labor Act, and rationalizing that it was "non-essential," Order L-208 made it illegal to mine gold. More than that, it became illegal to operate, purchase or transport any gold mining equipment, and the federal government confiscated any equipment in transit. The only mines that were allowed to keep operating were those that could prove they produced "strategic metals" such as iron, copper, chrome, nickel, cobalt and tungsten. The Government order prevented civilians from selling supplies connected with Gold Mining. He then went to work for Kaiser Permanente at the Magnesium Plant in Cupertino, CA as Superintendent. Worked there for 9 years until the plant was closed down. Had various jobs until 1959 when he went to work for Food Machinery Corporation (FMC) as Chief Metallurgist. Was there for 12 years before retiring in 1971. Moved to Gresham, Multnomah, OR in 1972. Served on the Gresham City Planning Commission for a number of years. Enjoyed Fly Fishing and gardening.
