Died at an early age, no children. He farmed two and one half miles north of Garner. He was "a prominent farmer in the community. Caught under a tractor he was using in plowing operations on his farm, Mr. Gilbert probably met instant death when he was pulled under the machine. His back was broken, and he was pinned under the plow beam when he was found by his wife." He was found by his wife after she saw the tractor parked in the field for an hour or so. "Going to the field she found the engine still running, the rubber tired wheels spinning and Mr. Gilbrt's mangled form under the plow beam." (obit).
Funeral set for 2:30 Friday at United Presbyterian Church. Rev. W.A. Thompson assisted by Rev. A.F. Newell of Syracuse NE. It is expected military honors will be accorded at the grave. (obit)
